Stage 1—Desired Results


Established Goals:
7-12.WL1.1.1.1 Comprehend basic vocabulary in isolation and in context
7-12.WL1.1.1.3 Recognize basic sentence types (e.g., questions, sentences,
commands, negative and positive)


Understandings:
Students will understand that… conversation about ourselves requires the verb "être"(to be) and sometimes we need to use negations.


Essential Questions:
Are there patterns? What is the rule? Are there exceptions?


Students will know . . .                         
Review conjugation of être                                   
Vocabulary to describe self
how to add ne…pas for negation
Cultural Understanding of contents of Louvre

Students will be able to . . .
Correctly use être according to subject pronouns.
Describe themselves using être and new vocabulary
Correctly form and comprehend a sentence in negative
Identify pieces of art housed In the  Louvre or Historical figures that lived there.

Stage 2—Assessment Evidence


Performance Tasks:
Memory Game - match subject to verb conjugation
Character guessing game - using sentences in negative and positive. Asking questions

Other Evidence:
Students will be required to write 10 phrases (4 negative) about themselves as homework.

-Tell Story about the Louvre and how the students were locked in for the night and magically turned into characters/pieces of art in the museum.
-Transition by telling the students who you are, a guard in the museum. Use basic vocabulary already known to students.
-Review the verb être - show patterns
-Discuss sample sentences, allow students to give verbal examples to the group.
-Introduce negation - discuss rules, allow students to read examples,
-play memory matching game with verb and subject then formed negative sentence, students create full sentence using already introduced vocab. and any new ideas that they come up with.
- Introduce Characters of Louvre
- Review question form (students should already know this form)
- Explain rules of the game, identify each character using only yes or no questions answered in a full sentence. (if students finish early have them look up and create new sentences about the other characters)

Grammar/vocabulary: negation, gros, mince, petit, grand, méchant, gentille, Américain, Français, joli, laid, musée, guardian, nuit blanche, 

Materials: Memory game, Prezi (presentation materials), name tags for character game (would be fun with hats or costumes)

7-12.WL1.3.2.1 Locate the areas in the world where the target language is spoken
7-12.WL1.3.3.1 Compare and contrast the everyday life and social observances of
the target culture with U.S. culture


Understandings:
Students will understand that… cooking in Côte d'Ivoire Is an expression of culture and language use is important in eating.


Essential Questions:
What are the differences between French /American / Ivorian culture? What do students like or dislike in food?

Students will know . . .                         
Review conjugation of aimer                                   
Vocabulary for food
Cultural understanding of different francophone societies and customs
Basic usage of "ne…pas" (negation)

Students will be able to . . .
Describe their likes/dislikes, use "un peu" and "beaucoup",
Identify food ingredients.

Stage 2—Assessment Evidence


Performance Tasks:
Matching Game - match word ingredients to image of Ingredients
Bingo game - using question form ask peers if they like/dislike items on the bingo sheet.
Other Evidence:
Students will turn in their bingo sheet with 10-20 sentences written on the back demonstrating their likes/dislikes.

Stage 3—Learning Plan


Learning Activities:
La Nourriture Ivoirienne - cooking alloco (youtube video)
-Welcome students in traditional Ivorian fashion. Akwaba! (music playing In background)
-Read intro to lesson plan with music in background (after first read distribute handout 1 then re-read w/o music)
-Discuss meal preparation, introduce food vocabulary,
-play matching game with picture and written word
-introduce verb aimer, ask students if they like foods on the vocab list
-students create full sentence using already introduced vocab. and any new ideas that they come up with.
- Prepare meal with class, ask students to describe likes/dislikes of the meal.
- Review question form (students should already know this form)
- Introduce BINGO - Explain rules of the game,
